You tell yourself this time will be different.
You’ll eat cleaner. Move more. Drink less wine. Go to bed earlier.
You make the plan, buy the supplements, download the app.
And for a few weeks—it works.
Until Friday night rolls around and the bottle of Cabernet whispers, you deserve it.
Until you’re at your in-laws’ house and someone’s comment triggers that old stress response.
Until your kid’s birthday party derails your perfect routine and you think, I’ll start again Monday.
That was me for years.
I had every resource—knowledge, discipline, even the right tools—but I kept hitting the same wall.
And eventually, I had to admit: I couldn’t do it alone.
The Moment I Finally Hired a Coach
For seven years, “Lose the baby weight” was at the top of my goals list.
And every year, I told myself I could figure it out on my own.
I worked out.
I saw functional medicine doctors.
I got my hormones checked.
I took every supplement that promised to balance cortisol, reset metabolism, or improve sleep.
I got regular massages to manage stress, tracked my calories, tracked my cycle, tracked my steps—everything.
On paper, I was doing all the “right” things.
But nothing worked.
It wasn’t for lack of effort. I was disciplined. Consistent. I could white-knuckle my way through almost anything.
But I was missing something deeper—someone to help me see what I couldn’t see.
Eventually, I had to admit what I didn’t want to say out loud: I couldn’t out-discipline misalignment.
I could push, but I couldn’t heal through willpower alone.
So this year, I did something different. I hired a health coach.
Not because I didn’t know what to do—but because I finally admitted I wasn’t doing it in a way that worked for me.
Within the first few sessions, she started connecting dots I never would’ve seen on my own.
- She noticed how I used wine on Friday nights as a way to “unwind” when really, my nervous system was crying out for rest and regulation.
- She helped me see how stress wasn’t just mental—it was metabolic.
- And she showed me that my body had learned to live in a constant state of defense, not safety.
It was humbling.
Because for the first time, I saw how much my independence—the same strength that made me successful—was keeping me stuck.
I had to face the truth: I wasn’t failing because I was lazy or undisciplined.
I was stuck because I was trying to DIY something that required partnership, perspective, and accountability.
Why Support Creates Real Change
The data backs this up.
Studies show that people who work with a coach are 70% more likely to reach their goals than those who go it alone.
Accountability increases consistency, which is where transformation actually happens.
And beyond the data, here’s what I’ve found:
Coaching isn’t about someone telling you what to do
It’s about someone holding up a mirror and helping you see yourself clearly—your habits, patterns, and potential. It’s about having a safe space to unpack what’s really in the way, whether that’s fear, fatigue, or the illusion of control.
And it’s about being reminded that you’re not broken—you’re just ready for a new strategy.
3 Signs It Might Be Time to Stop DIY-ing Your Growth
- You know what to do, but you’re not doing it.
Information isn’t the issue—implementation is. If knowing were enough, we’d all be thriving. - You keep repeating the same patterns.
Whether it’s how you handle stress, conflict, or your calendar—awareness without accountability keeps you stuck. - You’re tired of trying to figure it out alone.
Independence is a strength—until it becomes isolation. Asking for help doesn’t make you weak. It makes you wise.
Action Step: 3 steps to start creating real momentum
1. Admit where you’re stuck.
Write down the one area of your life where you’ve been saying “I’ll figure it out” for far too long. Awareness is the first step toward change.
2. Ask for perspective.
Whether it’s a coach, mentor, or trusted friend—invite someone into that area. A single conversation with the right person can reveal what you’ve been missing.
3. Invest in accountability.
Change rarely happens in isolation. The moment you put structure, support, and accountability around your goals, transformation becomes inevitable.
