The Gift of Stillness

December 24, 2025

It’s Christmas Eve.

The world is buzzing — last-minute wrapping, kids vibrating with excitement, kitchens full, calendars full, hearts full.

But right here, in this small pocket of quiet before the day unfolds, I want to give you something you rarely give yourself:

Stillness.

Not the performative kind.
Not the “five minutes of silence while you check your phone” kind.

The real kind — the kind your soul has been whispering for all year long.

Because for high-achievers like us, stillness is one of the rarest gifts we ever receive… and one of the most powerful.

Why Stillness Feels So Hard — Even When We Need It Most

High-achievers often struggle with stillness, not because we don’t want it, but because:

  • We’re conditioned to equate rest with falling behind.
  • Our nervous systems stay in “go-mode” even when the calendar says pause.
  • We’ve been the one holding everything together for so long that slowing down feels unsafe.
  • Stillness brings up emotions we’ve been too busy to feel — and that can be confronting.

But the research is clear:

Even 10 minutes of intentional stillness a day reduces stress, increases emotional regulation, and improves clarity and decision-making (Harvard Medical School).

And executives who build regular reflection time into their weeks are 30% more productive than those who don’t.

Stillness isn’t laziness. It’s leadership — from the inside out.

The Moment Stillness Found Me

There was a season when I was achieving everything on paper… but inside, I was running on fumes.

Every day felt like noise — meetings, decisions, responsibilities layered on top of each other with no space to breathe.

And the truth I didn’t want to admit?

I was afraid of slowing down because I didn’t want to feel how tired I actually was.

But one morning, before the house woke up, I sat alone in the quiet. No agenda. No to-do list. No expectations.

It was just me… and stillness.

And in that moment, something softened.

I could finally hear myself again.

Not the voice of pressure or performance — but the one calling me back to alignment.

That single pause became the doorway to everything I’m living now.

Stillness didn’t stop me — it strengthened me.

The Gift of Stillness (and How to receive it Today)

Today — before the excitement, the noise, the beauty of Christmas morning — I want you to give yourself this:

Three minutes of stillness.
Set a timer.
Sit in the quiet.
Breathe deeply.
Let everything fall away for a moment.
Let peace meet you there.
Let your nervous system exhale.

And ask yourself, gently:
What is this season inviting me to release… and what is it inviting me to receive?

You don’t need to solve anything tonight.
You just need to be present.
Because peace rarely arrives through effort.

Most of the time, it comes through stillness.
