As leaders we are always challenged with not only our own personal and professional growth but in also helping our teams thrive and grow.

I’ve always been a very strong personality and very leadership minded. From a young age I was regularly told to sit down and shut up. I was regularly told I was “too much” yet I always felt like I wasn’t enough. I didn’t fit into the traditional role I was told a girl should play. I was too strong-willed, too opinionated, I didn’t sit still, and I had big dreams that my parents and friends thought were ridiculous. Does this resonate with you? What do you do when you don’t fit in and you haven’t found your people yet?

I started off just trying to prove myself so I earned both an undergrad and a masters in Finance. I spent the first decade of my career in traditional finance roles, eventually moving to operations and then technology. I am most lit up by solving complex problems and driving major transformations to solve key business challenges. I feed on ambiguity and love a good challenge! I want to drive IMPACT in everything I do!

I worked my way up to executive leadership, leading a team of 100 people within an organization that was struggling to get customers to pay. They hired me to improve cash collections, improve billing accuracy and optimize the entire Order to Cash process. I absolutely LOVED the work. I loved my team, I loved solving complex problems and I loved working cross functionally with others to resolve issues end to end across the entire process. It was a blast!

However, I found that the higher I went the lonelier it got as a female in leadership. I was surrounded by men who didn’t understand the unique challenges of being a woman who was managing the mental load of both work and home. None (or few) of them had to worry about meal planning and grocery shopping, scheduling doctor and dentist appointments for their family, or in some cases even managing their own calendar. They had a wife, mom or executive assistant to do all that for them. Heck, some of them even had their coffee and lunches delivered. I needed the same support.

On top of the grueling schedule and other demands, my travel increased dramatically. At its peak I was traveling 3 weeks a month and missed my family terribly. How could the work I was doing be both fun and fulfilling but also draining and exhausting? I knew what I was doing wasn’t sustainable long term unless I made some shifts.  There had to be a better way.  There had to be someone I could talk to about this. But my close friends, although amazing, didn’t understand what I was going through. They shared messages like “Why don’t you just quit? It’s not worth it. You need to use this time to focus on your family. Your kids are only young once you know.”

Yet I wasn’t ready to walk away. The work filled my cup in so many ways. There had to be other women out there who understood what I was going through and faced similar challenges.

Since I couldn’t find what I needed, I decided to create it. I launched The Powerhouse Women Network in January 2024 with a new passion for supporting women as they navigate the top of the corporate ladder or run their companies. Being a woman operating at a high level is truly a unique place to be. As they say, it can be lonely at the top. This rings even more true for women. Historically women have competed with each other and in some cases even pulled others down to “get ahead” rather than supporting each other. Yet attitudes are shifting. Women are realizing they don’t have to choose between their goals and passions and their families. They just need the same level of support that men have benefited from all along.

My vision for the Powerhouse Women Network (PWN) is to connect powerhouse, badass women who are doing “it all” however they define it. These are women operating at the highest levels and navigating unique challenges.

We:

  • Support each other.
  • Celebrate each others’ wins.
  • Connect on a deep level.
  • Have the honest conversations no one is talking about.
  • Make introductions to other leaders who can help them grow in their life and business.

Some topics that come up:

  • Being one of few women in the boardroom.
  • Marital issues that come up when you are the breadwinner or your spouse may feel emasculated.
  • Getting the help necessary to support the household when we have to travel or work late for a big project.
  • Imposter syndrome – this doesn’t end no matter how high we climb.
  • How to find and keep great team members.
  • And many more!

Most of all I want to be around other like-minded women who “get me” and don’t question why I’m always pushing for more. They already understand that it’s because I know I can. They know that I feel not only called to, but COMPELLED to keep moving forward because I need to reach my full potential and model the way forward for others. They understand this because they feel it too!

I’m super passionate about this topic because every woman I’ve met has a dream, a goal, a passion in her heart that for one reason or another (I’m too old, too young, too thin, too fat, not pretty enough, I need to wait until my kids are older, my husband gets his masters or gets promoted, the list goes on) has been put on hold or delayed or questioned. It’s a societal difference where women are taught from a young age that they need to help everyone else, not to selfishly focus on their own dreams.

I believe the opposite. I believe that each of us MUST share our gifts and dreams with the world. We owe it to others to bring it into being because when women reach for their dreams they ALWAYS have others’ wellbeing in mind.

WOMEN WITH MONEY AND INFLUENCE CHANGE THE WORLD. Plain and simple.

They rebuild communities, give millions to charities, build companies that solve key challenges and they empower others to do the same. This work is vital to the future of our world! We must!

Yet, I don’t want to spend my time convincing women to step into their power and achieve their dreams. Instead, I want to show them that it can be done and come alongside the women who are already doing it so we can lift each other up much like boats in a harbor that all rise together.

My goal on this planet is to model the way forward, to inspire people to reach their full potential and to step out and do scary things so others can see that it can be done.

I make a point to do the hard and scary things like write a book (my next one is launching early next year), start a company, travel to exotic places I’ve always wanted to go to (reach out if you want to join me in Thailand in January. We’ll be supporting an anti-human trafficking organization), and perhaps most important to own and work on my stuff (my pain, my fears and my limiting beliefs).

I do this not only to build my own fulfilling life but also to help other women do the same. I want freedom, joy and passion in my daily life. Don’t you? That only comes by overcoming the self doubt that asks “who am I to do _____?” and instead respond to that still small voice inside that asks “What if I did the thing? What if I can? How could I change the world?”

If you are a fellow powerhouse then I invite you to join me and the PWN!

Who is this for? Successful Entrepreneurs and Executive level women who are managing all the things and looking for support along the way.

Every month we have great connections with an amazing group of women! Our goal is to be a place where we can both celebrate each others’ wins and share challenges without judgment. We share ideas, have deep / open conversations and make new connections.
