Finding Your Purpose (When You’re Not Sure Where to Start)

March 18, 2026

You’ve checked all the boxes.

The career.
The family.
The milestones you once hoped for.

And yet, in the quiet moments—between meetings, carpool lines, or settling into bed at night—you feel it:

A subtle question tugging at you: Is this really it?

Not because anything is wrong.
But because something in you is waking up.

Purpose rarely arrives with fireworks.

More often, it shows up in the small things you keep circling back to—

  • The problems you can’t ignore
  • The conversations that energize you
  • The work that feels like a truer expression of who you are.

The Truth About Purpose

For years, I thought purpose was a single, grand calling—one big “aha” moment where everything would finally make sense.

But what I’ve learned—through experience and from the women I coach—is this:

Purpose isn’t found. It’s formed.

It’s not a destination you stumble into.
It’s something that emerges as your life becomes more aligned with what matters most.

And that alignment happens at the intersection of three core areas:

1. Faith: Being Grounded in What You Believe

A deep sense of faith gives purpose its roots.

It’s where you draw strength, direction, and clarity when life feels uncertain.
Faith helps you discern—not just what you can do, but what you’re called to do.
It acts as an anchor when everything else feels loud.

2. Love: The Relationships Where You Can Be Fully Yourself

Purpose grows in connection.

Not in titles, roles, or achievements—but in authentic, supportive relationships where you can be honest, known, and seen without performing.

These relationships reflect truth back to you, challenge you in love, and create the safety you need to grow into who you’re becoming.

3. Meaningful Work: What Lights You Up and Feels Deeply Aligned

Purpose expresses itself through work—paid or unpaid—that energizes you, stretches you, and feels like a genuine expression of your gifts.

It’s the work where you lose track of time, where you feel alive, where you sense your impact.

Meaningful work doesn’t drain you—it fuels you.

When these three converge—faith, love, and meaningful work—purpose stops feeling like a mystery and starts feeling like alignment.

You don’t need a perfect plan to begin.
Just a willingness to notice what’s already calling to you.

The Data Behind Purpose

It’s not just emotional or intuitive—research backs it up:

  • People with a defined sense of purpose are 2.5x more likely to feel fulfilled in both career and relationships (University of Michigan).
  • Employees who connect their work to purpose are five times more engaged than those who don’t (Gallup).
  • Neuroscience shows that purpose activates the brain’s reward centers, boosting resilience, motivation, and emotional well-being.

Purpose doesn’t just make life feel better.
It changes how your brain—and your leadership—operate.

3 Ways to Clarify Your Purpose (Without Overthinking It)

1. Pay attention to the patterns.
Not the lightning bolts—the patterns.

Ask Yourself:

  • What issues do you feel compelled to solve?
  • What conversations do people always come to you for?
  • What topics do you keep returning to?

Patterns point to purpose long before clarity does.

2. Identify who you care about most deeply.
Purpose orients toward people.

Ask Yourself:

  • Who are you naturally drawn to help?
  • Who do you feel protective of?
  • Who do you want to encourage, strengthen, or support?

Where your compassion pulls you, purpose often follows.

3. Notice what feels meaningful—not just impressive.
Public success and personal fulfillment are not the same.

Think about the moments when you:

  • Lost track of time
  • Felt fully yourself
  • Contributed without forcing it
  • Walked away energized

These are breadcrumbs worth following.
